Over the years, I have turned thousands of objects — from simple bowls and pens, to elaborately carved vessels and other unique forms. Hardly a day passes that I do not spend at least a little time in my workshop turning, sanding, finishing, polishing, or simply contemplating my next piece.

Few people give much thought to woodturning, despite interacting with turned objects every day. For me, it has changed the way I observe the world. I notice individual trees and look at them more closely, wondering what potential beauty lies within. It only makes sense then, that locally sourced, sub/urban trees are my favorite and what the vast majority of my work is made from. The aesthetic potential of this wood is too often overlooked and it ends up as firewood or mulch. I like to think that I give a second life to these trees since, on my lathe, even the most seemingly useless chunk of wood can come alive again!

Constant experimentation and individual attention make every piece I create unique. I always try to impart my own particular style, whether I’m highlighting the natural beauty of the wood and the particular features within it, or I’m stretching beyond the traditional craft with striking design elements and colors.

Each piece of wood that I put on my lathe contains infinite possibilities. As I turn, I simply do whatever the wood wants me to do; I don’t always know what I’m looking for, but I know when I find it. While my mission is to provide objects and artwork of the absolute highest quality, more than anything I just want people to own, use and enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
